Sterile liquid paraffin (100 gr)
Oily liquid, colorless, limpid, practically tasteless, practically insoluble in water, poorly soluble in alcohol and miscible with hydrocarbons. It does not fluoresce in daylight.
APPLICATIONS:
• Topically it has emollient properties, being used for skin irritations and to soften scabs. It is part of bases for ointments and emulsions. It has antiseptic action alone or in combination with other antiseptics.
• Orally it is used as a lubricant, administered pure or in emulsion, not being digested or substantially absorbed in the digestive tract; It softens stool, prevents dehydration and lubricates the intestinal mucosa, which is why it is used in cases of chronic constipation.
• It is used in hypodermotherapy as a vehicle to maintain water-insoluble medications in suspension.
• Sterile liquid paraffin is used as an aseptic dressing and as a lubricant for catheters and surgical instruments.
