OCTOCOLAGEN haemostatic sponges
Octocolagen® is a sterile lyophilised gelatine cubic sponge weighing less than 10 mg that provides haemostatic and healing action and is completely resorbable by the body within 15 days. It is presented for use and is individually blister-wrapped.
Purpose: Octocolagen is especially indicated in surgeries for its high haemostatic and healing power. It should be applied to the cavity where haemostasis is desired, as an absorbable haemostatic buffer to reduce bleeding. Its porous structure provides a high fluid absorption capacity, absorbing a minimum of 35 times its weight.
A clot is known to form by local agglutination of blood platelets at the bleeding site by subsequent activation of the clotting factor cascade. Octocolagen provides a matrix that serves as an additional reinforcement for the formed clot. Except for this local effect, the product has no other pharmacodynamic effects.
